H. Mark Giles, 77, passed from this life into eternal life on October 1, 2019 in Arlington, Texas.
Mark was born on October 8, 1941 in Flint, Michigan to Herbert and Maria (Taeckens) Giles and was the second oldest of four children. He attended St. Michael’s Catholic School and excelled in mathematics. Mark served for four years in the United States Air Force in maintenance and electronics and later graduated from the University of Michigan in Flint with a degree in business and economics. He was employed at General Motors as an electrician and maintenance supervisor for three decades until he retired.
As a young man, Mark liked being active in sports and enjoyed weight lifting, swimming and running. He married his wife, Kathy Roe, on July 10, 1965. Together, they had three daughters. Mark was a dedicated father and enjoyed coaching his daughters’ softball and basketball teams in Flushing, Michigan until 1985, when he relocated his family to Arlington, Texas. Here, Mark was a cherished member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He lived his faith with purpose and joy and was a constant example of love in his family’s life. Mark will be remembered for his dedication to his family and the Catholic church, passion for physical fitness, and his love of the University of Michigan - GO BLUE!
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Maria. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; daughters Veronica (Benjamin Law), Monica (Peter Santa Ana) and Sara Grace; grandchildren Madeleine, Mitchell, Jacqueline, Peter, Nicholas, Michael, Meredith, Jessica, Sophia and Benjamin; his sister Nora and brothers Tim and Bob.
Kathy and daughters are thankful for the caring and loving staff at Meadowbrook Memory Care and the compassionate and devoted nurses at Silverado Hospice.
Visitation will take place at Emerald Hills Funeral Home located at 500 Kennedale Sublett Rd, Kennedale, Texas 76060 on Thursday, October 3rd from 5:00-8:00 pm, with Catholic Vigil beginning at 6:00 pm. Catholic funeral mass will take place on Friday, October 4th at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church located at 5819 W Pleasant Ridge Rd, Arlington, Texas 76016.
Donations may be made in Mark’s name to either Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties Michigan, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
