Robert Wellington Spindle IV

October 1, 1957 ~ December 31, 2019 (age 62)

Obituary

Robert Wellington Spindle IV was born October 1, 1957 in El Paso, Texas to Robert Wellington Spindle III and Lessie Lucile Jackson Spindle.  They moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1958 where Rob attended Alice Carlson Elementary, McClain Middle School and R.L. Paschal High School.  Rob was involved in sports and played pee wee football for the TCU Tiny Mites.

In 1975 Rob entered the U.S. Navy at the age of seventeen.  He married Lori Patrice King on June 14, 1975.  Rob trained as a FMF Corpsman, Preventative Medicine Technician and Medical Field Service Technician.  Rob served on the U.S.S. Albany for her decommission and on the U.S.S. Guam.

Rob served at NAS Orlando, Camp Lejeune, Beirut at the U.S. Navy Barracks in 1983, NAS Alameda and MCAS Iwakuni.

Rob loved to hike, fish and hunt.  He coached youth sports for his children including girls soccer, little league baseball, and basketball.  He was a member of the Japanese/American Hiking Club in Iwakuni.

After Rob and Lori ended their marriage Rob went on to Naval Hospital Oakland, served on USNS Mercy in Desert Storm, and NAS Adak, Alaska and Branch Medical Clinic Gulfport, earning the Rank of HMC/SW.  On October 22, 1994, Rob married Kathryn Joanne Spindle.  He retired from the Navy December 1996 and moved back to Fort Worth.

Rob started a new career with the City of Fort Worth Consumer Health Department, eventually becoming a supervisor.  Rob inspected restaurants, child care facilities and swimming pools.  He was on the mosquito vector control team after the West Nile outbreak.  Rob was also on a special biological response team to immunize for Small Pox and other deadly biological weapons after 9-11.  Rob transferred to Code Enforcement as a supervisor the last few years of his career.  He retired from the city after twenty years of service.

Rob and Jo have been fortunate to travel.  They have visited London, Texas Hill Country, Mammoth Cave National Park, the Great Smokey Mountains, Alaska, New York, Canada, and Historical sites on the east coast.  Rob traveled and visited many National and State Parks throughout his life because of his love of the outdoors, hiking, hunting, and fishing.  Rob loved sports and played volleyball and softball.

Most of all Rob loved his family especially the babies and toddlers.  He shared his love of the outdoors with them.  Rob strove to be an honorable man.  We think he did a superb job.

Rob is survived by his mother, Lessie Lucile Spindle; wife, Kathryn Joanne Spindle; son, Robert Wellington Spindle V; daughter and son in law, Armando Villarreal III and Angela Bianca Spindle; stepson and wife, Donald Ray and Bethany Grace Christensen; stepdaughter, and husband, Richard Lawrence and Khara Jean Crawford and Joa Donnell Christensen; grandchildren, Chase Angelica Hardee, Catarina Isabella Villarreal, Armando Enrique Villarreal, Julia Elane Christensen, Aubrey Anne Christensen, Riley Grace Christensen and Abigail Elise Christensen; sister, Victoria Ann Bird and husband Jeff; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
