Barbara Ann Geckler, 75, of Poetry, TX, passed away on the afternoon of February 16, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on July 13, 1948 in Berlin, Germany. Barbara is survived by her husband Bill Geckler, daughter Keli (Craig) Wiman, son Bucky Buchanan and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Frank P. Smith, mother Lillian (Butler) Smith, sister Susie (Smith) Snellgrove, and brother Frank Smith, Jr.
My mother loved animals, especially her horses; spending time doing yard work, especially tending to her roses; watching sports, especially tennis or LSU football; and telling stories where you could almost imagine being there. She loved Elvis so much that she “splurged” for satellite radio in her car so she could listen to Elvis Radio anytime she wanted. She had a passion for reading and antiques. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and beamed with pride as the biggest fan of her grandson, Dawson. She will be remembered for her strong character, honest ‘no sugar coated’ advice, and beautiful smile.
Our family would like to extend our gratitude to Heart to Heart Hospice and her nurse, Candace, for her kindness and care.
The family will hold a remembrance and graveside gathering on Friday, March 22nd from 11:00am-12:00pm. The Remembrance gathering and final resting place will be in the Garden of Faith at Restland Cemetery 13005 Greenville Ave; Dallas, TX 75243.
