B.B. Boyd Jr.

September 10, 1946 — January 23, 2022

Ovilla

B.B. Boyd Jr. was born in Jacksonville, Texas on September 10, 1946 to B.B. and Willie Mae Boyd.  This beautiful life came to a close on Sunday morning January 23, 2022.

B.B. (Sonny) attended Fred Douglas High School in Jacksonville, Texas. While at Fred Douglas High School he excelled in Football and Track and Field.  After graduation from Fred Douglas he married Claudette Adams and from this union he had two children Bobby and Nicole.

B.B. then joined the US Army and served in the Vietnam War.  While in the US Army he was a member of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles and held the position as helicopter gunner.  He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart medal and the Air Medal with 18 Oak Leaf clusters.  After serving in the US Army for 3 years he moved to Austin, Texas.  He attended Barber School and became a barber for a short period of time.  He then began a 30 year career with IBM.  B.B. later married Linda Bailey and to that union they had Corey and Ricky.

B.B. developed a love for the game of golf.  He traveled all over the United States to play in tournaments with his buddies (Bobby Piper and Rock).  He actually became a master of the game.  He had trophies at his home and at his mother’s home.  He had a love for all sports.  He supported his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, it was not uncommon for him to drive over 200 miles to attend a football game in the rain or to see him walking up and down the sidelines or coming through that gym door.

He also enjoyed “Grandparents Day” and picking up his grandchildren from school.  It was not uncommon for you to get a phone call from him to go check your mail box and find cookies or ice cream in it.  He was the KING of Snacks and practical jokes.  When it came to the children in the family he had a very big HEART.  He loved having family cookouts and thought it was very important for the family to get together at least once a year.

He will be missed dearly by all whose paths he crossed and lives he touched.  But the ones who will miss his voice, smile, encouraging words and lifetime of wonderful and precious memories the most is his family who he loved and cherished. Son, Bobby B. Boyd (Cynthia), daughter, Nicole Coakley (Dexter), son, Corey Bryant (Tomeka), son, Ricky Boyd (Ashley) and honorary daughter Sarah Carr (David).  Grandchildren:  Anastasia Boyd, Jordan Boyd, Bronson Boyd, Bailey Boyd, Trinity Coakley, Zahn Coakley, Micah Coakley, Esmee Boyd, Ja’lyn Powell, David Woods Jr., Nikki Bryant  and Sontriya Bryant.  Sister, Barbara Sue Clark, brother, Michael Lee Boyd (Bobbie), baby brother/nephew Larry C Alexander (Carolyn) and a host of nieces, nephews.

B.B. Boyd Jr. was preceded in death by his father B.B. Boyd, Mother Willie Mae Boyd, Brother Percy D Baggett, and Sister Lillie Mae Willis.
