Bettye Ann Wright

September 14, 1935 — December 13, 2023

Fort Worth

Bettye Wright passed away on December 13, 2023, in her home with her family at her side in Fort Worth TX. She was born on September 14, 1935, in Van Texas to Malvin and Viola Fowler.

She moved to Fort Worth, TX during her high school years where she attended Poly High School. She later went to join one of her sisters to finish out high school in McPherson, Kansas. She continued her higher education at Central Christian College where she met her husband, Vernon. They married in 1953 and returned to Fort Worth to settle down shortly after. They started a family, and she finished out her degree in teaching at Texas Wesleyan.

She began teaching physical education at Watauga Junior High then went on to teach English at Haltom High School. She enjoyed those years very much and made many lifelong friends with her coworkers. She had a heart for people and made a great impact on many students during her career. She sponsored the high school cheerleading squad and participated in many extracurricular activities, and served on several educational forum, like TSTA, and NEA. She retired from Haltom High School and set out on a new adventure of building a home with Vernon. They enjoyed traveling, playing golf and spending time with family. They were very devoted Christian’s and attended and were members of the Fort Worth Free Methodist Church their entire lives together. She played the piano, and he led the congregation in worship. They were a part of Bible Quiz clubs, summer camps, winter camping trips, Sunday School classes and much more. Bettye was a member of the Women’s Mission International Organization and helped in many projects through the years. She and Vernon made many lifelong friends through the church. Years later, when the church closed, she began attending Life.Church in Fort Worth Texas. When her health rendered her unable to physically attend, she faithfully watched the live broadcasts.

Her passion for teaching led her to return to work in 2002, where she began teaching in the learning lab at Kennedale High School. She enjoyed the students and coworkers and developed many special friends. She retired for the second and final time and made it a point to be present at all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events, band concerts, and anything they were passionate about. In her free time, she enjoyed, planting and growing flowers. Among her favorites, were geraniums, zinnias, daisies, and native Texas perennials. Even in the last few weeks, she was hoping to go to the plant store to get some new ones to plant.

She loved the scriptures of Psalms. So much so, that she had planned a bible study with one of her grandsons, Luke, to study each Psalm, and rewrite each one into a musical song. They completed only the 1st Psalm together before his passing. As a tribute to him, and their plan, she continued and completed the project. She had been working on getting that into book form to share with her family and friends.

Her main hope and prayer is that all of her family and people she met, would accept Jesus as their Savior. She hoped that all bondage we often encounter, would be broken by the power of the Lord as written in Psalm 91.

Bettye was preceded in death by her parents: Malvin and Viola Fowler,
