Georges Casablanca, lovingly known as George or Jorge, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, at the age of 92, surrounded by his beloved family in Arlington, Texas.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on August 13, 1932, George experienced both hardship and resilience early in life, losing his mother at the age of three. He was raised by his uncle in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, before moving to New York City in 1942 to live with his father. At just 15, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1947, beginning a lifetime of service and quiet strength.
After his service, George returned to Puerto Rico, where he reunited with Ligia Baez, whom he had first met in kindergarten. Their bond, formed in childhood, blossomed into a lifelong love, and they were married on January 2, 1954. Together, they built a marriage that spanned over 70 years, marked by devotion, perseverance, and deep mutual respect as they raised five children — four sons and one daughter.
George worked in pool maintenance before beginning a long and dedicated career with Medtronic Medical Devices in 1977. His work took him from Humacao, Puerto Rico, to Boca Raton, Florida, and eventually to Arlington, Texas, where he and Ligia made their home.
In retirement, George embraced his faith fully and found spiritual joy at the First United Methodist Church of Kennedale, which he joined in 2017. His life was a testament to perseverance, humility, love of family, and an unwavering belief in God.
George is survived by his devoted wife, Ligia Baez de Casablanca; his sister, Virginia Casablanca de Romaguera; his children: George Casablanca, Jose Casablanca, Jaime Casablanca, Julio Casablanca, and Ligia Casablanca-Krinn; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eduviges Cuebas and Mariano Casablanca.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Kennedale (Kennedale, TX)
