Herbert Franklin Buchanan, 89, passed away on April 4, 2022 at Harris SW Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born on May 4, 1932 in Atco, Georgia to Frank and Emmie Hall Buchanan. Herbert Grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from Diamond Hill High School in Fort Worth, Texas. After high school he attended Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas where he received a degree in accounting. Joined the Navy in 1950 and served for 4 years. He served as a medical corpsman. Began work for the Federal Government in the Defense Contract Audit Agency for 15 years. He then transferred to the Department of Energy where he finished out his 32 year career achieving the rank of GS 17, the highest rank in the Federal Government below a Presidential appointment. He participated in numerous Congressional hearings enforcing the rules and regulations of the Department of Energy. Herbert retired in 1994 after 32 years. Herbert married Melba in 1952 in Fort Worth, Texas. They were happily married for almost 70 years. Herbert was affiliated with the Southern Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Treasurer at Oakwood Baptist Church. Herbert was preceded in death by parents Frank and Emmie Buchanan, sister Imogene and brother James. Herbert is survived by his spouse Melba of Benbrook, Texas, daughter Cindy(Sheila) Buchanan of Granbury, Texas, son Paul(Patty) Buchanan of The Woodland, Texas grandchildren Kara(Stephanie) Buchanan of Portland Oregon, Katy Buchanan of Fredericksburg, Texas, Grant (Jennifer) Buchanan of Houston, Texas, Scott Buchanan of Houston, Texas, Mathew Buchanan of Midland, Texas, William Bigelow of Houston, Texas. Great Grandchild Theo Buchanan of Fredericksburg, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Texas Oncology or Tunnel To Towers Foundation.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Harris SW Hospital, the doctors, nurses, and caretakers. Also all the family and friends for well wishes and prayers.
