James Andrew Sumpter Jr., 82, passed away on March 13, 2026, at his home in Fort Worth,

Texas. James was born on January 15, 1944 in Fort Worth, Texas to parents James and Anna Mae

Sumpter. James grew up in Fort Worth. He joined the Coast Guard on January 2, 1963 and served

for 4 years. James achieved the rank of SN-E3, was awarded the National Defense Service Medal,

and served on the USCG Cutter McLane before being honorably discharged.

After proudly serving his country in the United States Coast Guard, James brought the same

discipline and dedication to his lifelong career as a carpenter. His craftsmanship could be seen in

every beam and joint he touched, and in the quiet pride he took in a job well done.

Beyond his profession, he found peace in simple pleasures—morning coffee on the porch, enjoying

westerns in his recliner, hunting, and just being outside surrounded by the great outdoors.

James was preceded in death by his parents James Andrew Sumpter Sr. and Anna Mae Sumpter;

and daughter, Tiffany Sumpter. James is survived by his spouse Dorothy Sumpter; two siblings,

Barbra Ann Gann and Donna Klein (Bobby); two sons, Matthew Sumpter Sr. (Candelaria) and Lee

Sumpter (Jenny), and daughter Leanna Sumpter; three grandsons, Colby (Evelyn), Matthew Jr.

(Emalee), and Taylor Sumpter (Rocky), and four granddaughters, Jessica (Jeff), Samantha, Kaylee,

and Megan; and seven great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers, Colby, Matthew and Taylor Sumpter, Ignacio Soto, 

Mike Matthews and Colby Whitfield. 

 A memorial service will be held at Emerald Hills Funeral Home and Memorial

 Park ,500 Kennedale Sublett Rd in Kennedale, Texas at 10 am March 20th, 2026. A visitation will be held at 500 Kennedale

Sublett Rd, Kennedale, Texas at 6-8pm March 19th,2026. The family will be greeting friends and

relatives at 6pm to 8pm, March 19th,2026. Burial will follow at Emerald Hills Funeral Home and

Memorial Park.
