Fort Worth

Jerry B. Heftler, born on May 27, 1954, in the Bronx, New York, passed away on November 15, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas. A man of remarkable strength and immense kindness, Jerry left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered, cherished for his loving spirit and larger-than-life personality.

He dedicated much of his life to his illustrious career in public service, primarily with the United States Department of Justice. Jerry’s visionary leadership extended far beyond this, as he served on the boards of various organizations including the American Correctional Association, and the Texas Association of Hostage Negotiators. As a FBI Certified Hostage Negotiator and Team Leader, he exemplified professionalism and commitment. His influence was also felt in economic development through his roles with the Mansfield Economic Development Corporation and the Murphy Center for Entrepreneurship. Recognition followed him, as he was featured in INC magazine for his innovative work, leading IMS to rank as the 27th fastest growing privately held company in America. Yet, in Jerry’s eyes, his most treasured titles were “Daddy” and “POP POP,” which reflected his devotion to his family above all else.

Family was at the heart of Jerry's existence. Memories of holidays filled with laughter, family adventures, trips to watch the New York Yankees, and cherished pasta dinners come to the forefront when remembering a man who exhibited love in every gesture. Thanksgiving wouldn’t have been the same without his secret recipe gravy and stuffing, which became a beloved tradition, just as his famous homemade French onion soup was a gift shared with loved ones.

Jerry’s warm and generous nature made him not only a loving husband to Heather Harris Heftler, but also a guiding light to his children, Robert (Bobbie) Heftler, Alison Heftler (Dakari) Sells, and Bryan (Chelsea) Heftler, and Harrison Beagles. As a grandfather, his legacy shines through in the lives of his grandchildren: Alexis, Violet, Alyssa, Gino, Sophia, Jacob, Jackson (JBH2), Reese, Aubrey, Taion, Tiffani, Darious, and Marcus. He also had the joy of welcoming several great-grandchildren: Jian, Luca, Paisley, Kaysen, Karter, Kamryn, Karsyn, Kalani, and Kason into the world, ensuring that his legacy will continue through the joyful memories created together.

Jerry is preceded in death by his devoted parents, Edith and Irving Heftler, and his brother Alan Heftler, who together shaped the foundations of the man we remember today. Survived by his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as his sister, Gail Heftler Wilhelm, and brother-in-law, Keith Wilhelm, along with his nephew, James Wilhelm, Sharon Heftler, mother of his children Robert, Alison and Bryan, and lifelong friends Harold Shaker, Jim Matranga, and Tom Mummert, will keep his spirited memory alive with their stories and laughter and will forever cherish the moments they spent with him.

The impact of Jerry’s life resonates with those who knew him, from his passion for classic cars, love for oldies music, to his dedication as a little league coach cheering on young athletes. Jerry mastered the art of making time for everyone, always finding joy in good cigars with friends or immersing himself in his family’s milestones.
