MANSFIELD -- John passed away peacefully on August 7, 2008 at home surrounded by his family after a valiant fight against esophageal cancer.Funeral mass 10:00 am Tuesday morning at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church 5819 W. Pleasant Ridge Rd. St. Jude's Children's Hospital John was born in Forest Grove, Oregon on October 23, 1944 and graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1962. On August 1, 1962, John was married to Virginia Conrad, also from Forest Grove, Oregon. John worked for Willamette Industries for 20 years in Beaverton, Oregon, Chicago, Illinois and Grand Prairie, Texas as he advanced from bag handler to General Manager. In 1983, John decided to go into the car business and opened S&J Chevrolet in Forest Grove, Oregon with his brother-in-law Skip Spenst. In 1991, the car dealership was sold and John and Virginia moved back to Texas to be closer to their kids and grandkids. Later in 1991, John went into business with an old friend Jerry Schell at Dieco. In 1995, John took over sole ownership of Dieco where he continued to work until his illness no longer allowed. He loved travelling to Lake Havasu, Arizona where he golfed with his close friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Virginia, and their children Lisa Arnold and husband Scott, John Jr. and wife Cindy, Jeff and wife Jeanine, Jason and wife Victoria, Jessica and Jensen. Eight grandchildren Alexandria, John III, Mackenzie, Kacy, Aivrey, Coleton, Jackson and Blake, his mother Edith Zaiger, brother Mark Zaiger, sisters Janet Taylor and Jill Zaiger, many extended family members and numerous nieces and nephews, along with a host of other family and friends.
