November 17, 1953 — April 17, 2025

Arlington

Beloved Friend, Animal Lover, and Beach Enthusiast

Laura, a woman whose heart was as boundless as the ocean she loved, passed away suddenly and peacefully April 17th, 2025 at the age of 71, at her home in Arlington, TX. Laura was born in Odessa, Texas, and graduated from Permian High School. She carried with her the strength, pride, and spirit of her West Texas roots throughout her life. Though life brought its share of challenges, she met each one with resilience, grace, and deep affection for those around her—especially her cherished four-legged companions.

Though Laura never had children of her own, she poured her love into the many animals she called family over the years, including several loyal Saint Bernards, proud Chows, and a host of beloved cats. To her, they were never "just pets," but her true children—constant sources of joy, comfort, and unconditional love.

Laura was married and later divorced, but she found enduring companionship and care when she met David, her dedicated caregiver, in 2006. Over the years, Laura became an unofficial but deeply treasured part of David’s family, sharing in his life and in the lives of his two daughters—one of whom is married with children. She found great joy in being part of their lives and was affectionately known as “Grandma Laura.” The love and connection she shared with them brought a new kind of warmth, belonging, and happiness to her later years.

A woman of passion and spirit, Laura found joy in the simple pleasures: feeling the ocean breeze during beach trips, watching her shows, listening to her favorite music, and taking drives in her Corvette with the windows down and the volume up.

After suffering a stroke in 2014, Laura faced numerous medical challenges. Even as life became more difficult, her spirit remained strong and her love for her family—both chosen and furry—never waned.

Laura will be remembered for her gentle soul, her love of animals, and the joy she brought to the lives she touched. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, resilience, and unconditional love. Laura was preceded in death by her parents Travis and Ruth Surratt, and her brother, Travis.

A private celebration of life will be held by those closest to her, where stories will be shared, memories honored, and Laura’s presence felt in every smile and every tear.
