Lela Peyton

Lela Maxine Peyton, 89, passed away on March 1, 2022 at her home in Burleson, Texas.  She was born September 16, 1932 in Chelsea, Oklahoma to Allen and Mary Ethel Hann Custer.

Lela grew up in Chelsea, the youngest of 10 children. After high school she married her high school sweetheart, Raleigh Peyton.  They were married for 26 years and had two daughters together.

Most of the early years of her adult life, Lela lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  She was an office manager in a dental office for 20ish years before retiring and moving to Texas to be with her children and grandchildren in 1996. Lela was an avid artist, she loved doing arts and crafts: painting, sewing, embroidery, and floral arrangements. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, and puzzles. She had a passion for elephants, roosters, and snowmen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; all 9 brothers and sisters, Ervin, Robert, Jasper, Clarence, Wayne, Wade, Opal, Pearl and Marjorie.

Lela is survived by her two daughters, Donna (Larry) Steel, Leann (Randy) Wallace; grandson, Tyler (Billi) Steel; granddaughters, Lydia Dyer; Chelsea (David) Perez; Caitlin (Daniel) Fine; great-grandchildren, Rachel Dyer, Phoenix Steel, Asher Steel, Amelia Perez, Charlie Fine, Jude Fine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11am Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Emerald Hills Funeral Home, 500 Kennedale Sublett Road, Kennedale, Texas 76060. Visitation will be at 10am in the chapel. Interment will follow the funeral service in Emerald Hills Memorial Park.

The family requests any donations in her honor be made to Cook Children’s Health Care at www.cookchildrens.org.
