Linda Mentzel

August 12, 1950 — February 9, 2017

Linda was born on August 12, 1950 in Durant, Oklahoma.  She was the daughter of Dan and Sally Creamer.  She went home to be with the Lord in Heaven on February 9, 2017.  She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Kurt Mentzel; three children Jason, Angela, and Jereme, four grandchildren Tyler, Madison, Pierce, Derek; and her sister Nickie.  She is preceded in death by both of her parents.

Linda grew up in Durant, Oklahoma and various locations across the US as her father engaged in the booming oil industry.  Her family settled in Sherman, Texas where she studied ballet and was actively involved in her church.  She attended Sherman High School and met the love of her life, Kurt prior to her graduation in 1969.  They were married on June 26, 1971 while both attended college and worked.  Linda graduated from Southeastern State University in 1973 with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education.  She never taught school because she was pregnant two months after graduation with their first child.  Kurt graduated from Austin College in Sherman with a B.A. Degree in 1976 and began a career with Johnson & Johnson.  Both were actively involved in the First Baptist Church of Sherman and Linda spent much of her time shuttling their three children to and from school and their activities in soccer, gymnastics, and tennis. She later took the task of home schooling all three.

As Kurt’s career expanded, he accepted an executive position and the family moved to Arlington, Texas in 1992.  They joined Fielder Road Baptist Church and soon were involved in starting a mission church in south Arlington, Southfield Christian Fellowship.  Linda enjoyed singing in the praise and worship team and the busy schedule teaching the children. Linda would often join Kurt on business conventions across the US.  In 1996 Kurt felt God’s call to join a consulting practice so he could help more organizations.  This new flexibility gave Kurt and Linda the opportunity to engage in overseas mission work as the children began to leave the nest.  Their first mission trip was to Zambia, Africa in 1997.  Two years later they began mission work in Romania which continues to this day.  Other trips have included Jordan, Israel, and the UK. Linda’s love has spread throughout the world as every life she touched felt her gentle giving spirit.

On January 6, 2013 Kurt and Linda joined First Baptist Dallas and Linda soon became active in the choir.  Kurt and Linda went with the church to New York City in 2015 where she sang with the choir at Brooklyn Tabernacle and Carnegie Hall in a concert with Sandi Patti.  Kurt and Linda have taken many trips to the mountains of Colorado in their tandem ATV and the seashores of Florida and the Caribbean.  However, their biggest joy has been sharing the adventure of life just by being together.
