Maria Del Socorro
Moya
Feb 6, 1931 — Sep 13, 2026
Grand Prairie, Texas
With hearts full of love and gratitude, we bid farewell to our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-aunt, Maria del Socorro Moya Magallanes, who passed into eternal rest last Sunday, September 13, at the age of 95.
Born in Sain Alto, Zacatecas, Maria del Socorro “Coco” had a beautiful childhood, enjoying and being adventurous in the orchards filled with fruit trees where her father Genaro Magallanes and mother Genara Canales were caretakers. After the orchards, her family moved to Ciudad Juarez where she worked as a saleswoman in an herbal shop. She held several jobs as a young woman, learning to be hardworking and dependable. That was how she, always brave and determined, began her family. With all her effort and all her faith in God, she instilled that same faith in her 8 children, whom she raised to be hardworking and always well-mannered.
In 1971, Maria emigrated with her family to the United States via El Paso, Texas. Always tenacious, she worked cleaning houses, and eventually worked as a seamstress for many years for Hortex Mfg. Co., sewing for the Billy The Kid brand. With much pride and triumph, she alone was able to gift her children the gift of legal residency in the United States. In 1983, Maria and her children decided to move again to Irving, TX. There she began working in 1984 for the Sheraton Grand hotel in housekeeping and laundry services. In 2005, Maria washed and folded her last sheet with Sheraton Grand, retiring at the age of 74.
Maria will always be the fundamental pillar of our family. Her life was a constant testament to unconditional love, patience, and devotion. As a mother, she guided our steps with wisdom; as a grandmother, she filled our childhood and youth with unforgettable memories that we will cherish forever. She is the pillar and the upbringing through which we sustain our faith in God.
She is survived by her children Manuel (Isela), Jose Luis (Leticia), Rogelio, Mario, Miguel, and Leonel (Priscilla); her 8 granddaughters and 9 grandsons; her 15 great-granddaughters and 17 great-grandsons, and her great-great-granddaughter and two great-great-grandsons. She is also mourned by her nephews and nieces from El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, as well as those in Mexico.
Welcoming her into Heaven are her parents Jose Genaro and Genara Magallanes, her sisters Socorro Magallanes and Maria Inez Canales, her brother Juventino Magallanes, her daughters Maria Teresa Macias and Cindy Angelica Moya, her nephews Gilberto Magallanes and Antonio Lugo, and her son-in-law Cosme Ramon Macias.
We deeply appreciate the expressions of love and support received during this very difficult time.
