Robert Alan Steffens, 70, passed away on Saturday, November 5th, in Dallas, TX. He was born on August 6, 1952 in Neenah, Wisconsin to Roger Allen Steffens and Noreen Evelyn Steffens (Baker).
Robert grew up in Menasha, WI and graduated from Menasha High School in 1971. After high school he joined the United States Air Force.
While stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Marquette, Michigan he met his wife, Marcia L. Steffens (Tait). They were married on July 26, 1975. During his military career, he was stationed at Zweibrucken Air Force Base in Germany and Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. While serving as a Law Enforcement Specialist, he had the distinction of protecting the Shah of Iran in 1979. In 1991, he was deployed to the Gulf War serving in Operation Desert Storm. For his service, he was awarded the Kuwait Liberation Medal and a bronze star. After 20 years of service, he retired from the Air Force in 1994.
He became a CDL big-rig operator until he entered college in 2001. At age 52, he received his Bachelor of Biblical and Missionary Studies from Arlington Baptist College. Shortly after he was ordained, Robert and Marcia were commissioned by Pleasantview Baptist Church to serve the Tarahumara Indians in the mountains of rural Mexico.
After 3 years of ministry, Robert and Marcia returned to Texas and, becoming fully disabled, he spent his time seeing his grandchildren, playing pool, and enjoying his dog Buddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roger Allen Steffens and Noreen Evelyn Steffens (Baker).
He is survived by his wife Marcia Louise Steffens (Tait), his four children, Alan Robert Steffens (Yadira Steffens) of Spring, TX; John David Steffens of Signal Hill, California; Sarah Jo Eversole (Matthew Eversole) of Lancaster, TX; Anne Marie Martin (Jason Martin) of Dallas, Texas; 9 grandchildren [David Steffens, Torin Martin, Kaya Martin, Jachin Martin, Zebadiah Eversole, Caellum Martin, Ahava Eversole, Saoirse Martin, Nella Martin]; one step-granddaughter Diana Monetmayor; his four siblings: Michael Steffens of Appleton, WI, Kathleen Covington (Steffens) of Oxford, MS, Deborah O’Hara (Steffens) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Patrick Steffens of Menasha, WI and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Pleasantview Baptist Church, 4400 Pleasantview Dr, Arlington, TX 76017 at 11a.m. on Wednesday, November 16th. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at a viewing to be held at Pleasantview Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 16th from 10:00am – 11:00a.m. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Dallas—Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211 with full military honors.
