Ruth Ellen Chennault, affectionately known as "Gee," left this world on August 23, 2025, just one day shy of her 98th birthday. Her passing took place peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving grand(daughter) Brandi Merritt, great-granddaughter Megan, and a cherished friend Irene. Ruth lived a life full of grace, laughter, and strong familial bonds that will leave a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to know her.
Born on August 24, 1927, Ruth was the daughter of Jesse and Ethel Melton, who instilled in her the values of faith, resilience, and community. A proud graduate of Savoy High School, she carried the lessons learned during her formative years throughout her life, nurturing her love for family and friends.
Ruth’s spirit was as vibrant as her hobbies. She found joy in doing puzzles, playing hand and foot, and indulging in the thrill of the marble game, "murder." These simple pleasures brought her closer to loved ones and created cherished memories that will be fondly remembered. She credited her long life to eating raw onions and maintaining a strong coffee routine, as well as attending church weekly. She was a steadfast believer in the Cowboys and held on to the hope that they would one day return triumphantly to the Super Bowl, showcasing her relentless optimism and whimsical spirit.
Throughout her life, Ruth faced challenges with unwavering strength. In a remarkable testament to her resilience, she never contracted COVID-19, and drove up until her fall in February of 2025.
Ruth is survived by her beloved grand(daughter) Brandi Merritt & Erin and great-grandchildren Chance Turner, Grant Piercy, Jeremy Piercy & Isabella of WA, Megan Merritt, and MaKaylee Merritt. Also her niece Deanna Chamberlin, Jason and their daughter Jacey, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever cherish the memories made with their beloved “Gee.”
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Joe “Cotton” Chennault, fondly known as Pa-Pa, and her two daughters, Deborah Kaye Shahzada and Patricia Ann Piercy. She now joins her parents and siblings—Charley “Dee” and Betty Melton, Barbara and Bob Murders, and JW and Jeanette Melton—in eternal rest.
A visitation to celebrate Ruth's remarkable life will be held on September 4, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Emerald Hills Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Kennedale, Texas. The funeral service will take place the following day, September 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM, followed by her burial at 12:15 PM, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory.
Ruth Ellen Chennault will be remembered not only for the joy she brought into the lives of those around her but also for the strength and love that defined her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, laughter, and an unbreakable family bond that will be cherished for generations to come.
