High Chief Samuel Olubunmi Fasonu
High Chief Samuel Olubunmi Fasonu, age 75, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on November 26, 1950, in Araromi-Obu, Ondo State, Nigeria, Samuel was the first child of Jonathan Adeboyejo Fasonu and Harriet Olapeju Fasonu. He was raised in a loving Christian home where faith, discipline, integrity, and education were deeply valued. Those principles shaped the man he became and remained the foundation upon which he built his life.
Samuel was a man of deep conviction, unwavering integrity, and generous spirit. He believed in doing what was right, speaking the truth with courage, and treating every person with dignity and respect. He possessed a remarkable gift for conversation and could turn almost any topic into an engaging discussion—from politics and sports to farming, current events, and everyday life. His sharp wit, infectious laughter, and sincere interest in others drew people to him wherever he went.
He began his professional career as a journalist with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), where his intellect, professionalism, and passion for public affairs earned him widespread respect. He later dedicated many years to public service in Ondo State, serving in several leadership roles with distinction. In recognition of his lifelong commitment to the growth and welfare of his hometown, he was honored with the traditional title of High Chief Odunwo of Araromi-Obu. While he valued the opportunities he had to serve, those who knew him best remember him not for the offices he held, but for the character with which he served.
Affectionately known by many names—including Baba Fash, Lord Fash, Chief Joloye, and the unforgettable “Man Pass Man”—Samuel left a lasting impression on everyone he met. To his friends, he was loyal, dependable, and generous. To younger generations, he was a mentor who inspired excellence and encouraged others to pursue their full potential. He was admired for speaking his mind with honesty, standing firmly by his convictions, and sharing wisdom with humility, compassion, and humor.
Above all, Samuel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of faith. He shared nearly fifty years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mrs. Tinuola Fasonu, building a home founded on love, mutual respect, unwavering support, and Christian values. He was immensely proud of his four children—Babatunde, Ayodele, Olamide, and Olamilekan—and found immeasurable joy in watching his family grow. His grandchildren brought out a particularly gentle and playful side of him, filling his later years with laughter and treasured memories.
A devoted Christian, Samuel lived a life guided by faith, humility, and service. He measured success not by titles or accomplishments, but by the difference one made in the lives of others. His kindness, generosity, steadfast faith, and commitment to his family and community left an enduring mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Samuel is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Mrs. Tinuola Fasonu; his children, Babatunde, Ayodele, Olamide, and Olamilekan; his children-in-law; his cherished grandchildren; his extended family; and a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and loved ones whose lives were enriched by his wisdom, encouragement, generosity, and love.
Though his earthly journey has come to an end, his legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the community he faithfully served, and the countless lives he touched through his example of integrity, compassion, servant leadership, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored by all who were blessed to know him.
