Sherrin was born June 15, 1964, to Joe and Melba Simmons. She was raised in Arlington, Texas as part of a large family that loved big. Sherrin grew up knowing to pay that love forward. With her first paychecks, she bought her younger siblings a swingset. That was Sherrin. She didn’t need fancy and she didn’t need the spotlight. To know her was to love her.
Sherrin’s passion was her kids. And when her daughter became a mother, Sherrin became Mawma to the apple of her eye, Sadaya. Sherrin and Sadaya were best friends, closest buddies, and thick as thieves.
Sherrin will be so deeply missed as she never met a stranger and was often a refuge for the displaced. She was the caretaker of many, an open door for the lost, and a listening ear for the unheard. Whether you were family by blood (or not) didn’t make any difference; once you were her family, you were always her family.
Sherrin was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Melba Simmons, sister Tersa Hebert, and brother Shane Simmons.
She is survived by her daughter, Ashley Alexander, son Michael Alexander, granddaughter Sadaya Alexander, sisters Sheila Simmons-King, Tina Jandrucko, brothers Joe Edward Simmons, Neil Simmons and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Though death leaves a heartache no one can heal, may we always remember that love leaves a memory that no one can steal.
Rest easy, Sherrin.
