Stephen Charles
Husbands
Aug 9, 1950 — Sep 16, 2026
Kennedale, TX
Stephen “Steve” Husbands, 76, of Kennedale, TX, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 16th, unexpectedly while doing what he loved, working on a vehicle at his “Toy Box” building. Steve grew up in Maryland and attended the University of Maryland where he met the love of his life, Diane. They married in 1972 and after working in the DC area for a few years he transferred to Dallas-Ft. Worth in 1977. Along with his friend and business partner, Bob Shaffer, the pair started Overland Rentals in Arlington, which would later become Rental Stop in Grand Prairie/Arlington. They also began Point of Rental Software which has achieved its own level of success. After a successful business career, he retired to spend more time with Diane, traveling to see family, tinkering at the Toy Box with the hope of eventually restoring his 1967 El Camino along with many other projects, and watching his grandchildren compete around the country in soccer, gymnastics, diving, track/cross country, golf and numerous other activities and celebrations. While he did not cheer loudly at games, he was no doubt their biggest fan always waiting after an event with a supportive hug and encouraging word win or lose. He also made weekly Tuesday trips to Tent Maker Farm with David Jennings, which provided endless project opportunities.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Diane; son David Husbands (Jill) of Midlothian, TX; daughter Kendra Guthrie (Ryun) of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Kennedy, Keann, Lincoln, Briggs and Ford; sisters Liz Gorham (Mike), Carolee Duckman (Bob), and brother Jim Husbands. He is preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Helene Husbands.
Above all, Steve was a faithful servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He lived out his faith daily through humility, generosity, and a genuine desire to help others. Steve and Diane were devoted members of Christ Chapel Bible Church in Fort Worth, where they faithfully attended worship services, Sunday School classes, and their small group. Steve exemplified the heart of a servant, often helping others quietly and without recognition. It was not uncommon for a tool, piece of equipment, or project supply to appear unexpectedly on someone's doorstep from Amazon or eBay simply because Steve had overheard a need in conversation.
Steve's legacy is one of steadfast faith, unwavering love for his family, quiet generosity, and a life spent serving others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his family rejoices in the assurance that he is now in the presence of his Savior.
“Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been over little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” Matthew 25:23
