Aurora Quijas

Aurora R Quijas, 90, passed away on Oct 23, 2021, in Fort Worth, TX.  She was born on Sept 26, 1931, in Rio Grande City, TX to Felipe Reyes and Juana Ozuna.  She grew up in Weslaco, TX and at an early age, she began work as a migrant worker in Texas then later in California, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Ohio, and Arkansas, to name a few.

Aurora married Carlos R Quijas on April 22, 1949. They were married for 58 years until his death.  Throughout her life, she worked hard and tirelessly first as a seamstress in her earlier years, later as a restaurant and beauty salon owner, finally as a real estate investor. During the last 40 years of her husband’s life, she was his primary caregiver. Truly she was a kind, but fearless, energetic, hard-working, cheerful, loving, and faithful servant of God.

Aurora was preceded in death by her husband Carlos R Quijas, her sister Guadalupe Hernandez, her brother Pablo Reyes, and her grandson Samuel Quijas.

Aurora is survived by her sister, Antonia Alegria; her six children, Omar Quijas, Irene Torres, Delia Alvarez, Carlos Quijas, Martin Quijas, and Maria Arrubla; fifteen grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at Emerald Hills Funeral Home, 500 Kennedale Sublett Rd, Kennedale, TX on Oct 30. 2021 with a viewing from 9:00 to 11:00 and service from 11:00 – 12:00. Burial will follow at Emerald Hills Cemetery.
