Dorothy Moore

Dorothy Mae Moore, age 86, passed into Heaven on January 8, 2021.  She was born on July 10, 1934 in Whitney, Texas to George Walter and Mary Dolly Mayo. Dorothy was the oldest daughter of eight children. Her father was a sharecropper and Dorothy dropped out of school to pick cotton and help raise her younger siblings. She married the love of her life, Carroll Eugene (Gene) Moore on March 8, 1955. Married 36 years, together they raised their three children, Michael, Gary and Carol Elaine in Rendon, Texas.

Dorothy was a homemaker, an excellent cook and seamstress, and her life was focused on her husband and children.  She trusted in Christ as a young woman and was baptized at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas on April 5, 1959.

Dorothy and Gene soon after joined New Hope Baptist Church in Mansfield, Texas, where she was a member for over 50 years. Dorothy taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school, attended Bible studies and was a faithful prayer warrior for family and friends. She loved her church family.

Dorothy studied and received her GED in 1973, then attended Tarrant County Junior College, achieving her Associate’s Degree in Education.  She became a teacher’s aide in the Fort Worth Independent School District where she was employed for many years.

Dorothy was widowed at the age of 56 when her husband, Gene, passed away in 1990 due to cancer.

Dorothy was an avid reader, enjoying Christian fiction and reading through the Bible each year. She loved to travel. Her memories of trips to Nashville,Tennessee, Pike’s Peak in Colorado, the Grand Canyon and Graceland in Memphis were some of her favorites.

She was a beloved grandmother to nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren of which she was very proud. She remembered each birthday and loved to celebrate the holidays with all of her family together.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Michael Eugene Moore and his wife Susan of Garland, Texas;  Gary Dean Moore and his wife Kathy of Cleburne, Texas and daughter Carol Elaine Hayden of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Aaron Moore and wife Caitlin of Elgin, Texas and their two children, Shepard and Cathedral; Benjamin Moore and wife Christie, of Dallas, Texas and their three children, Conrad, Jackson and Finn; Carissa Wallis of Garland, and her two children Benji and Beau; Ruth Pagel and her husband, Kyle of Argyle, Texas and their two children, Nolan and Eleanor: Grace Mckee and husband Jason of Rowlett, Texas and their three children, Angus, Helen and River: Ethan Moore of Dallas, Texas; Taylor Moore and wife Aubrey of Joshua, Texas; Alycia Bennett and  husband Les of Fort Worth and daughter, Emmeline; and Allison Hayden of Fort Worth, Texas.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Emerald Hills Funeral Home, 500 Kennedale Sublett Rd, Kennedale, Texas 76060 at 11 am Friday, January 15th with funeral and burial at the same location at 1pm.

Her children rise up and call her blessed;

Her husband also, and he praises her:

“Many daughters have done well,

But you excel them all.”
