Obituary

Gerald Thomas Waite passed away on July 15, 2020 at Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest in Ft. Worth, Texas.  He was born on December 1, 1946, in Dallas, Texas, to Clyde and Doris (Williams) Waite.

Gerald grew up in San Antonio & Dallas, Texas.  He lived one memorable year in Gambrels, Maryland.  He graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, Texas, attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Studies, and earned a Master of Arts degree in Christian Ministries from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, graduating Cum Laude.

God called him into ministry at the age of 12 and he preached his second sermon on a street corner in San Antonio, Texas.  (His first sermon was preached at a younger age in his family’s living room to neighborhood children.  He promised them cookies if they would come.)  He ministered at Gold Mine Assembly of God in his teens and Memorial Assembly of God in his early 20’s under Pastor Derwood DuBose.  He pastored First Assembly of God in Sweetwater, Texas 1974-1975, and afterwards was on the evangelistic field for a year.  In 1976, he became pastor of First Assembly of God in Everman, Texas.  In 1996, the church relocated to Arlington, Texas and became Faith Assembly of God.  He retired on May 3, 2020 after pastoring Faith for 44 years.

He received his first step of ministry credentials in 1962, at the age of 16, and was ordained in 1975 by the North Texas District.  He had a heart for missions, and ministered in Nicaragua, Mongolia and Moldova.

Gerald married Brenda Connally in 1968, in Dallas, Texas.  They were happily married for 52 years.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Brenda, of Arlington, Texas; mother, Doris Mixson , of Arlington, Texas; brother, Ralph (& Barbara) Waite, of Arlington, Texas; sister, Sharon (& James) Brown of Gainesville Virginia;  brother, Loran Mixson, of Greenville, Texas; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gerald was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Thomas Waite; step father, Dal Mixson; and his sister, Carol Crow.

A memorial service and visitation will be held at Emerald Hills Funeral home, 500 Kennedale Sublet Rd., Kennedale, Texas 76060.  The family will be greeting friends and relatives on Monday evening July 20, between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.  The Celebration Service will be on Tuesday morning July 21, at 10:00 a.m.  The burial will follow at Emerald Hills Cemetery.
