James Leo Strowd

April 3, 1936 ~ February 17, 2021 (age 84)

Obituary

James Leo Strowd, 84, passed away on February 17, 2021 at Mansfield Methodist Hospital in Mansfield, Texas. James was born on April 3, 1936 in Goshen, Alabama to Walter and Annie Claire Strowd.

James grew up in Cockrell Hill, Texas, where he attended Sunset High School.  He went to work at LTV Aerospace, and eventually at Bell Helicopter as a Machinist where he worked for 19 years.  In 1981, he started his own business, Strowd Machine & Tool, in Kennedale, Texas.  He was a very active, hardworking and successful business man until the onset of his dementia in 2020.

In his youth, James enjoyed a hard day’s work and racing cars.  He married Mary Joy Story in 1964 in Dallas, Texas. They lived in Arlington, Texas for many years until they built their dream home in Burleson, Texas in 1996.  You could always find him working in the yard, to keep his four acres looking like a golf course. He always enjoyed his machine shop, gardening, and taking care of the love of his life, Mary. They were happily married for 54 years until Mary’s untimely passing in 2018.

James was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Annie Claire, his son Randy Nix, and his wife, Mary.

James is survived by his son Russell (wife Lorraine) of Grand Prairie, Texas; grandchildren Kayla Marsh of Dallas, and Kade Strowd of Grand Prairie; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns, the immediate family will hold a private viewing and burial at Emerald Hills Funeral Home in Kennedale, Texas on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association at http://www.curealzfund.org/.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurturing caretakers at the Avalon Memory Care Facility in Arlington, as well as the compassionate staff members at Mansfield Methodist Hospital for giving us comfort and peace through James’ illness and passing.
