Joshua Serwanga

Prof. Joshua Musoke Serwanga passed away on August 15th, 2021 at Methodist Dallas Medical Center Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He was born on February 7th, 1958 in Kabowa, Kampala, Uganda to Elisha Isaac and Norah Nakyejwe Serwanga. Joshua grew up in Kampala, Uganda where he attended elementary and high school. After high school, he moved to the United States of America, where he attended college at Rogers State in Claremore,Oklahoma. He continued his higher education at Dallas Baptist University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.

Joshua completed his Alternative Certificate for High School Mathematics Programs, which led to his education career span of 25 years with Dallas Independent School District (DISD). He was also the Director of ExxonMobil Summer Programs, Instructor for Remedial Math at El Centro College,Cedar Valley College and Global Electro-Comm International INC.(GECII). He later retired from DISD and continued his career at the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. His passion was to teach. Joshua was a distinguished educator of the Dallas Independent School District and was among the founders of the Texas Prep Program (1996-2019) and had the honor of working under the great Dr. Napoleon B. Lewis Sr. In his early years in the US, he worked at Cooks Children’s Medical Center and Arlington Memorial Hospital.

Joshua was married to his beautiful wife Helen for 27 years. He was a member of St. Vincent’s Cathedral in Bedford, Texas. Joshua was so full of life and loved his family. Joshua loved to teach, cook, garden, fish, sing, shop, guns, soccer, casino, cartoons, classic music, the British Royal family, traveling, Europe in general and loved animals with a passion. In addition, he enjoyed African History and wonders of Africa. He was a member of the Institute of American Educators to Africa and Who is Who in American Teachers.

Joshua was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his lovely wife Helen, his daughters Victoria & Sheba, Son Christopher, Son-in-law Joseph and grandchildren Roselyn, Norah and Josiah, Sisters Miriam, Jane, Naomi,Tabitha, brother Paul, Sister-in-law Elizabeth His niece Tonah and nephew Dembe and other relatives.

There are no words to express our gratitude for all of your prayers, thoughts, cards, calls, and text messages, and visits. We are forever grateful for what you have shared in our time of bereavement. Thank you for whatever part you may have played. May God continue to bless each and everyone of you.
