Lois Clydell Gates, 92 passed away on Friday, July 3, 2020 at home with family nearby.

She was born July 20, 1927 in Lockhart to Julius Clyde Boyd and Annie Pearl Garner. She grew up on a farm during the Great Depression near Lockhart, TX .  She graduated from Lockhart High School in 1945.  After high school she moved to Brady, TX, and worked at a drug store.  She later married Donald J. Floyd in 1946 and had two children.  Her husband passed away in 1953 and then she moved to Abilene, TX.  There she worked in a watch factory, attended Draughon’s Business College, and moved on to work for medical doctors as a secretary.

In 1959, she married Roger E. Gates, who was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base.  They had two children and later divorced in 1970.  She worked for the US Postal Service and took care of her family.  She was a faithful servant to her Lord and attended church on a regular basis when her health would allow.  She was known for her green thumb and had the most beautiful yard, plants, flowers, and shrubs.  She enjoyed travel on occasion, but got the most enjoyment from being with her family.  They were her life.  She retired from the US Postal Service in 1991.  She also loved dancing and bowling.

She preceded in death by her parents and siblings.  She is survived by her children: Donna Knight, Jimmy (Alysa) Floyd, Ann (Blenda) Gates, and Tommie West. Grandchildren: Donny, Helena (Jay), Carissa (Andy), Cameron (Katie), Taylor, and Beau (Stefanie).  Great Grandchildren: Jessyka, Mattelyn, Samantha, Sophia, Andrew, Finn, and Violet and Four great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, plus extended family.

Condolences may be left on the online guest book.  The family wishes to extend gratitude to Dr. Kannaeganti, Dr. Priya Subramanian and the other doctors and nursing staff of H.E.B. Hospital that cared for our mother.  Thank you Donna & Tommie for taking care of mom in her final days.
