Arlington

William James Stegmeier, 98 years old, passed away on June 5, 2020 at Medical City Hospital in Arlington, TX.  He was born on March 9, 1922 on a homestead in Casa Grande, AZ to Charles and Hedwig Stegmeier. Bill grew up in Tucson, Arizona and graduated from Tucson High in 1940. After high school he left for California to see the world and meet the love of his life, Gwen Griffiths. They were married on June 21, 1942 in Yuma, Arizona and had 48 happy years together. Bill went into the Merchant Marines in 1943 and his adventuresome spirit led him to sign on to and sail on six different ships during the war. After leaving the Merchant Service in 1945, he began his lifelong career as an entrepreneur. Bill owned a concrete construction company, concrete additive manufacturing company, and went on to found Stegmeier Corporation in 1968. He applied for the first of his 40+ patents back in the early 1950s. His creativity is responsible for many products used in the decorative concrete industry today. Bill was a devout Catholic his whole life and enjoyed hiking, rock collecting, and playing his guitar. More than anything else, though, he enjoyed his family. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Gwen and all four of his siblings. He is survived by his four children, eleven grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Bill will be buried at 9:00 AM on June 17, 2020 at Emerald Hills Memorial Park. Due to current medial safety issues, the service will be outside and will be attended by immediate family and local friends only. Even if you are not able to attend, please know your prayers are in our hearts. The family is planning to host a “Celebration of Life” for Bill when it becomes safer to do so, possibly in the summer. We will notify you when the details are fixed.
